The Federal Government has called for stronger collaboration among African countries, development partners and the private sector to build more resilient and sustainable food systems capable of addressing food insecurity across the continent.
Speaking at a regional engagement on agriculture and food security, government officials said collective action is essential to improving agricultural productivity, strengthening value chains and ensuring reliable access to safe and nutritious food for Africa’s growing population.
The government noted that climate change, conflicts, economic shocks and supply chain disruptions continue to pose significant challenges to food production and distribution. It stressed that coordinated responses are needed to enhance resilience and reduce the continent’s vulnerability to external shocks.
According to the Federal Government, increased investment in agriculture, irrigation, research, innovation and climate-smart farming practices will be critical to improving food production and supporting sustainable rural development. Officials also emphasized the importance of expanding access to quality seeds, fertilizers, mechanization and agricultural financing for smallholder farmers.
The government further called for stronger regional cooperation to promote intra-African trade in agricultural products, reduce post-harvest losses and improve food distribution through better transportation and storage infrastructure.
Agriculture remains a major employer across Africa and contributes significantly to the livelihoods of millions of households. Development experts say improving food systems can increase incomes, create jobs and strengthen economic resilience while supporting broader efforts to reduce poverty.
Food security analysts also highlight the need for greater private-sector participation in agro-processing, logistics and agricultural technology to modernize food production and improve market access. They argue that innovation and digital solutions can help farmers increase productivity and respond more effectively to changing climate conditions.

Experts say achieving resilient food systems will require sustained policy implementation, adequate funding and stronger partnerships among governments, research institutions, farmers and agribusinesses.
