In commemoration of World Menstrual Hygiene Day 2026, the Engage Empower Educate Initiative (EEEI), in collaboration with the Africa Women Summit (AWS) and the 100 Reputable Women of African Descent Class of 2026, successfully carried out the “1000 Pads to Girls” Outreach Programme at Junior Secondary School, Gosa-Airport Road, Abuja.

The impactful outreach formed part of ongoing efforts to address period poverty, promote menstrual hygiene awareness, and empower adolescent girls with the knowledge, confidence, and resources needed to manage their menstrual health with dignity.

The initiative was led by the Founder of the Africa Women Summit and Executive Director of Engage Empower Educate Initiative, Kalada Belema Meshack-Hart, alongside Mrs. Vivian Kwande, Global Administrative Coordinator of the Africa Women Summit.

The outreach brought together advocates, and changemakers committed to improving the lives of young girls through education, awareness, and access to menstrual hygiene products.

Meshack-Hart Speaking during the event, emphasized the importance of breaking the silence around menstruation and ensuring that no girl misses opportunities because of inadequate access to menstrual health education and sanitary products.

The programme featured engaging and educational sessions delivered by distinguished speakers including Maisie Dunbar, Special Adviser to the President of Liberia on Trade and Investment and a member of the 100 Reputable Women of African Descent Class of 2026, as well as Mrs. Sandra Kaizer and Angela Ukire Agbegir.

The speakers addressed critical topics such as menstrual health management, personal hygiene, self-esteem, confidence building, and the importance of supporting and educating the girl child. The sessions encouraged participants to embrace healthy menstrual practices while challenging the stigma and misconceptions often associated with menstruation.

As part of the outreach, over 700 sanitary pads were distributed to students, helping to provide immediate support to young girls while reinforcing the message that menstrual health is a fundamental aspect of health, dignity, and education.

The outreach also aligns with the flagship humanitarian commitment of the 100 Reputable Women of African Descent Class of 2026, which aims to provide 100,000 menstrual pads to underserved girls across Africa through the Period Poverty Project. The initiative seeks to improve access to menstrual hygiene products and restore confidence among girls living in vulnerable and underserved communities.

The atmosphere throughout the event was filled with learning, encouragement, and inspiration as students actively participated in discussions and received practical guidance on managing their menstrual health.

Meshack-Hart noted that the success of the outreach reflects the collective commitment of the Engage Empower Educate Initiative, Africa Women Summit and the 100 Reputable Women of African Descent Class of 2026 to advancing the health, wellbeing, and future of girls across Africa.
