The National Information Technology Agency (NITA) has confirmed a temporary outage on the Government of Ghana’s official email platform, disrupting communication across several ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). The outage, announced on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, has raised concerns about the smooth flow of government communication and public service delivery, which rely heavily on the platform.

In an official statement issued in Accra, NITA disclosed that its technical team had already identified the source of the fault and was working around the clock to restore services. The agency acknowledged the critical role the email system plays in coordinating government operations, emphasizing that every effort is being made to minimise disruption.

“We understand the importance of this platform in supporting government communication and public service delivery, and we sincerely regret any inconvenience this disruption may cause,” the statement read. The Acting Director-General of NITA assured stakeholders that restoration of the service remains a top priority, adding that regular updates will be provided until full functionality is achieved.

The temporary outage underscores the importance of digital infrastructure in modern governance, as official emails remain a vital tool for policy coordination, citizen engagement, and inter-ministerial communication. While NITA has not disclosed the exact nature of the fault, it assured the public that engineers are working diligently to resolve the issue in the shortest possible time.

NITA further appealed for patience and cooperation from civil servants, agencies, and the general public while its team works to bring the platform back online. The agency reiterated its commitment to strengthening Ghana’s digital governance infrastructure to prevent future disruptions.

This outage comes at a time when Ghana is intensifying its digital transformation agenda, with NITA at the forefront of efforts to enhance e-governance, cybersecurity, and ICT-driven service delivery. The swift response and transparency displayed in handling the situation highlight the agency’s dedication to ensuring reliability in government communication systems.
