The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has urged the South-South Development Commission (SSDC) to ensure strict compliance with the Public Procurement Act, emphasizing that adherence to due process is essential for transparency, accountability and efficient public service delivery.
Speaking during an engagement with officials of the commission, the BPP said full compliance with procurement regulations would promote value for money, strengthen public confidence and reduce the risk of irregularities in the award and execution of government contracts.
The bureau noted that public procurement plays a critical role in national development, as government contracts account for a significant share of public expenditure. It urged the SSDC to establish robust internal procurement systems, maintain accurate records and ensure that all procurement activities comply with existing laws and guidelines.
According to the BPP, transparent and competitive procurement processes help improve project delivery, encourage fair competition among contractors and ensure the prudent use of public resources. The agency also stressed the importance of continuous capacity building for procurement officers and other personnel responsible for contract administration.
The SSDC, which was established to coordinate development initiatives across Nigeria’s South-South region, is expected to implement projects aimed at improving infrastructure, economic development and social welfare in member states.
