Sahara Upstream has deployed a new tanker to support crude oil production and export operations at Oil Mining Lease (OML) 18, a move expected to strengthen operational efficiency and improve the evacuation of crude from one of Nigeria’s key onshore assets.

The company said the deployment forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance production logistics, improve asset performance and support reliable crude export operations in the Niger Delta.

According to Sahara Upstream, the additional tanker will help optimize the transportation of crude oil from the field, reduce operational bottlenecks and improve flexibility in managing production and export schedules.

OML 18 is one of Nigeria’s major oil-producing assets and contributes to the country’s crude oil output. Industry experts say efficient evacuation infrastructure is critical to maintaining production levels, minimizing downtime and improving revenue generation from upstream operations.

The deployment comes as Nigeria continues efforts to increase crude oil production and maximize returns from its hydrocarbon resources amid evolving global energy market conditions. The Federal Government has prioritized investments aimed at improving production capacity, protecting oil infrastructure and attracting new capital into the upstream sector.

Energy analysts note that modern logistics and marine infrastructure are essential to improving operational reliability and reducing supply chain disruptions in the oil and gas industry. They add that enhanced export capacity can strengthen Nigeria’s competitiveness in international energy markets while supporting foreign exchange earnings.

Experts also emphasize the importance of maintaining high environmental and safety standards in offshore and onshore oil operations. They say continued investment in technology, infrastructure and asset integrity will be key to ensuring sustainable production and minimizing operational risks.

The deployment of the tanker aligns with broader industry efforts to improve efficiency across Nigeria’s petroleum value chain following ongoing reforms in the energy sector. Stakeholders believe that sustained investment in upstream infrastructure will help boost production, increase government revenues and support economic growth.

Sahara Upstream said it remains committed to operational excellence, safe production practices and the efficient development of Nigeria’s energy resources, while working with industry partners to strengthen the country’s oil and gas sector.
