South African police have arrested a British man wanted in the United Kingdom over the alleged murders of his wife and two daughters, bringing an international manhunt to an end.
The suspect, Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, 45, was arrested in the Johannesburg suburb of Kensington during a joint operation involving the South African Police Service (SAPS), Interpol and UK law enforcement agencies. He is wanted in connection with the deaths of his wife, Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, 42, and their daughters, Natalie, 15, and Nala, 5, whose bodies were discovered at their home in Great Denham, near Bedford, north of London.
British prosecutors have authorized three murder charges against Tshuma. Investigators say he left the UK two days before the victims’ bodies were found, prompting an international search that led to the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice. South African authorities tracked him down after he entered the country.
Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane said South Africa would not become a safe haven for fugitives and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to international law enforcement cooperation. Tshuma is expected to appear before a South African court, where extradition proceedings to the UK are likely to begin under the bilateral extradition treaty between the two countries.
The case has shocked the Bedfordshire community, where tributes have been paid to the victims. UK authorities say the criminal investigation remains ongoing while they work with South African officials to secure the suspect’s return to Britain.
