Morocco have secured their place in the quarter finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a commanding 3 nil victory over co hosts Canada in the Round of 16.

The Atlas Lions delivered a composed and clinical performance, breaking the deadlock shortly after the restart through midfielder Azzedine Ounahi in the 50th minute. Canada pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Morocco remained organised at the back and dangerous on the counter attack.

Ounahi struck again in the closing stages to give his side breathing room before Soufiane Rahimi added a third goal in stoppage time, sealing an emphatic victory and sending the Moroccan supporters into celebration. The 3 nil win highlighted Morocco’s discipline, tactical intelligence, and attacking quality against a determined Canadian side.

The victory marks another milestone for Moroccan football, as the North African nation reaches the World Cup quarter finals for the second consecutive tournament following its historic semi final run at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Morocco also became the first nation to secure a place in the quarter finals of the 2026 tournament, reinforcing their status as one of the competition’s standout teams.

For Canada, the defeat brings an end to a memorable World Cup campaign. The tournament co hosts had captured the attention of fans with their energetic performances and recorded their first ever FIFA World Cup knockout stage victory earlier in the competition. Although their journey ends in the Round of 16, the team’s performances have been widely praised as another important step in the continued growth of Canadian football on the international stage.

Morocco will now turn their attention to a highly anticipated quarter final clash against France, with the Atlas Lions aiming to continue their historic run and become the first African nation to lift the FIFA World Cup trophy. With confidence growing and momentum firmly on their side, Morocco have once again shown they are capable of competing with the very best in world football.
