Sudan Army Reclaims Presidential Palace Amid Intense Fighting in Khartoum

Sudan’s army has announced that its forces have entered the presidential palace in the heart of Khartoum, marking a significant development in the ongoing conflict between the army and the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In recent weeks, the army has intensified its military campaign against the RSF, seeking to reclaim areas of Khartoum it lost at the onset of the civil war in 2023. Regaining control of the city would represent a major victory for the army and a potential turning point in the two-year conflict.

However, despite the recent gains, the RSF continues to maintain control over vast regions of Sudan, including much of the western territories, presenting an ongoing challenge for the army’s efforts to assert dominance.

The civil war, which erupted in 2023, has plunged Sudan into what the United Nations describes as the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. The conflict has displaced millions, caused widespread food insecurity, and left countless Sudanese civilians in dire need of assistance.

As the battle for Khartoum intensifies, the international community continues to call for an end to hostilities and a negotiated resolution to the devastating conflict that has ravaged the nation.
