Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Barau FC have unveiled 14 new signings as part of preparations for the 2026/27 season, reinforcing their squad after an impressive debut campaign in the top flight.

The Kano-based club has recruited players from several NPFL and Nigeria National League (NNL) sides, including Ahmadu Liman and Idris Saidu (Niger Tornadoes), Kumaga Suur (Lobi Stars), Stephen Wisdom and Kennedy Etunuya Energy (Bayelsa United), Nasiru Jibrin (Wikki Tourists), Adekunle Oluwasegun (Nasarawa United), Casmir Azubuike (Abia Warriors), Anthony Omaka (Rivers United), Elvis Obukowho (Warri Wolves), Boluwatife Ajina (ABS) and Adamu Abubakar (Gombe United). The club also welcomed Alameen Umar and Christian Maduka, who return from spells in Egypt and Albania respectively.

Midfielder Ahmadu Liman and defender Kumaga Suur reunite with head coach Eugene Agagbe, having previously worked under him at Lobi Stars.

The signings reflect Barau FC’s ambition to build on their eighth-place finish in their maiden NPFL season. Club officials and players have expressed confidence that the strengthened squad can compete for a continental qualification spot or challenge for the league title when the new campaign begins on August 28–30.

The recruitment drive also highlights the growing competitiveness of the NPFL, with clubs investing in experienced domestic talent to improve performance and raise the overall standard of Nigerian football. Such investments are expected to strengthen player development, increase competition across the league and enhance the country’s football ecosystem.
