Nigeria and Italy have agreed to establish a Working Group to drive the proposed Global Partnership for Education financing campaign aimed at mobilizing five billion United States dollars for education globally. The initiative, known as the Multiply Possibility Campaign, is designed to transform learning opportunities for 750 million children and will culminate at the Global Education Summit scheduled to hold in Rome in September 2026. The campaign is also projected to unlock an additional ten billion dollars in domestic education financing by 2030.
The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, disclosed this during a meeting with the Ambassador of Italy to Nigeria, Roberto Mengoni, on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. She emphasized that education remains a central pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that Nigeria’s large youth population makes the summit both timely and necessary.
According to the Minister, the partnership will contribute significantly to youth empowerment through skills development, employment opportunities, and migration management. Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu also advocated constructive dialogue on migration issues, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to strengthening bilateral relations. She further highlighted Nigeria’s interest in green investments, particularly within vulnerable communities, stressing the importance of creating productive opportunities that will encourage young people to thrive within the country.
Earlier, Ambassador Roberto Mengoni stated that the meeting was important for both countries, as co chairs of the Global Partnership for Education, to align on the date and venue for the summit. Beyond educational collaboration, discussions also explored areas including tourism, economic cooperation, and defence partnerships between both nations.
