The Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) has officially fixed a new date and venue for the much-anticipated 2025 edition of its Nationwide Championship, one of the most important grassroots football tournaments for women in the country. The championship, which plays a key role in the growth and development of women’s football in Nigeria, will now take place from October 10 to October 17, 2025, at the Bwari Township Stadium in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

Confirming the update, the Chief Operating Officer of the NWFL, Modupe Shabi, explained that the championship will feature a total of ten teams competing across two groups of five. At the end of the group stage, the best two teams from each group will secure promotion to the NWFL Championship, the second tier of the league system. Shabi emphasized that the tournament remains a vital pathway for clubs across Nigeria to showcase their potential, compete at a national level, and progress within the structured women’s football league pyramid. She further assured that the NWFL is fully committed to ensuring the championship is competitive, transparent, and well-organized.

The competition will officially begin on October 11, with fixtures scheduled for October 11, 13, 14, 16, and 17. October 12 and 15 will serve as rest days for players and officials, ensuring recovery between matches. The grand finale is set for October 17, when the tournament’s champions will be crowned and the four promoted teams confirmed.

The championship groups have also been unveiled. Group A will see Osklean FC, Rangers Women FC, Plateau Queens FC, DreamStars Ladies FC, and C2E Sports Academy battling for supremacy. Group B, on the other hand, will feature Sporting Angels FC, Alexander Queens FC, Rosaria Victrix FC, NAF Queens FC, and Solo Wonders FC. With such a diverse lineup of clubs from different parts of the country, football fans are guaranteed a thrilling week of action, rivalries, and memorable performances.

The NWFL described the tournament as more than just a football competition, stressing its significance in the broader development of women’s football in Nigeria. The championship gives young players the opportunity to gain visibility, attract the attention of top-tier clubs, and lay the foundation for future professional careers. It also highlights the growing recognition of women’s football as an integral part of the nation’s sporting culture.

As women’s football continues to gain momentum globally, the NWFL Nationwide Championship is seen as a crucial platform for Nigeria to nurture and showcase emerging female talent.
