An airstrike in western Iraq has killed seven soldiers and injured 13 others, military officials said, underscoring the ongoing security challenges in the region.

The strike occurred near the city of Al-Qa’im, a strategic area that has experienced repeated clashes between Iraqi forces and militant groups. Initial reports indicate that the attack targeted an army patrol during routine operations, though details about the responsible party remain unclear.

Iraqi military sources confirmed that emergency response teams were dispatched to the site to assist the wounded and secure the area. Hospitals in the region received the injured soldiers, some of whom are reported to be in critical condition.

The incident highlights the continued vulnerability of Iraqi forces in western Anbar, where remnants of insurgent networks and cross-border threats pose persistent security risks. Authorities have pledged to reinforce patrols and improve intelligence operations to prevent further casualties.

This attack comes amid a series of security incidents across Iraq, prompting renewed focus on counterterrorism efforts and coordination with international partners to stabilize volatile regions. The government has called for calm while vowing to pursue those responsible for the strike.
