The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended warm congratulations to the Government and people of the Republic of Malawi on the successful and peaceful inauguration of His Excellency, Peter Mutharika, as the seventh President of Malawi. The inauguration, which took place on Saturday, 4th October 2025, in Blantyre, marks a significant milestone in Malawi’s democratic journey and sets a positive tone for the nation’s political future.

Nigeria commended the people of Malawi for their resilience, unity, and unwavering commitment to democratic principles, rule of law, and peaceful transition of power. The peaceful electoral process and inauguration have been described as a demonstration of the strength of Malawi’s institutions and the will of its citizens to protect and advance democracy.

As Africa’s largest democracy, Nigeria reaffirmed its solidarity with Malawi, emphasizing the importance of building stronger partnerships across the continent to ensure political stability, sustainable development, and shared prosperity. According to the statement, Nigeria shares in the joy and optimism of Malawians at the dawn of this new chapter under President Peter Mutharika’s leadership.

Nigeria expressed confidence that President Mutharika’s administration will usher in progress in national development, economic growth, and social unity, while also reinforcing Malawi’s role as a respected member of the African community of nations.

Highlighting the historic ties between Nigeria and Malawi, the Federal Government stressed its readiness to deepen cooperation in strategic sectors such as trade, agriculture, education, energy, and security. Strengthening bilateral relations, Nigeria added, would not only benefit the two countries but also contribute to the collective growth and stability of the African continent.

This diplomatic goodwill gesture underscores Nigeria’s commitment to supporting African countries in their democratic journeys while working hand-in-hand to address common challenges and unlock opportunities for future generations.

With the inauguration of President Peter Mutharika, both nations are poised to advance their long-standing friendship, regional cooperation, and commitment to peace and prosperity for all Africans.
