Nigeria has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on the occasion of its 80th Independence Anniversary. In a goodwill message, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, conveyed warm regards to Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Bùi Thanh Sơn, celebrating the nation’s resilience, unity, and progress in its journey toward sovereignty and national development.

Nigeria and Vietnam established diplomatic relations in 1976 during Vietnam’s reunification struggle, further strengthening their ties with diplomatic representation in each other’s capitals in 2007. Over the years, cooperation has expanded across trade, agriculture, investment, education, and multilateral engagements, with bilateral trade reaching about $1 billion in the last quarter of 2024.

Both nations also continue to collaborate within the United Nations and other global platforms, working together to promote international peace, sustainable development, and South-South cooperation.

On this historic occasion, Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Vietnam, exploring new areas of partnership, and fostering stronger people-to-people connections for mutual benefit.

Nigeria extends best wishes of peace, prosperity, and progress to the government and people of Vietnam, while pledging continued friendship and support.
