Ghanaian investigative journalist, filmmaker, and news anchor Godwin Asediba has been announced as the winner of the prestigious 2025 BBC News Komla Dumor Award. At just 29 years old, Asediba, who works with TV3 and 3FM in Ghana, becomes the 10th recipient of the award, which celebrates excellence in African journalism and honours the legacy of the late Komla Dumor.

Known for his powerful human-interest reporting, Asediba has built a reputation for exposing injustice and amplifying the voices of marginalised communities. His investigative work has been featured on several international platforms, with one of his most notable reports highlighting the public health risks caused by neglect at one of Ghana’s largest mortuaries.

Created in memory of Komla Dumor, the Ghanaian BBC World News presenter who passed away suddenly in 2014 at the age of 41, the award seeks to spotlight journalists who portray Africa with depth, dignity, and authenticity. Asediba described winning the accolade as not only a personal milestone but also “a call to carry forward the spirit of journalism that informs, inspires, and transforms.”

As part of his prize, Asediba will travel to London for a three-month placement with BBC News across television, radio, and online. He will also be mentored by senior BBC journalists and report on an African story that will be broadcast globally.

BBC Africa regional director Juliet Njeri praised the award’s impact over the past decade, noting that it has nurtured some of Africa’s brightest journalistic talents and kept Komla Dumor’s legacy alive as a champion of bold, authentic African storytelling.

Past winners include Rukia Bulle, Paa Kwesi Asare, Dingindaba Jonah Buyoya, Victoria Rubadiri, Solomon Serwanjja, Waihiga Mwaura, Amina Yuguda, Didi Akinyelure, and inaugural winner Nancy Kacungira.
