Nigeria’s Super Eagles are gearing up to take on Libya in a crucial Group D Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier on Friday, October 11, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. The highly anticipated match is set to kick off at 6 PM CAT (SA, GMT+2) and could bring Nigeria closer to securing their place in the 2025 AFCON finals to be held in Morocco.

The Mediterranean Knights of Libya, meanwhile, have had a mixed run of results this year. Nasser Al-Hadhiri’s side kicked off 2024 on a high note, winning four consecutive friendlies, which built momentum ahead of their competitive matches. They also secured a 2-1 victory over Mauritius in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in June. However, their unbeaten run was brought to an end by Cape Verde, who edged them 1-0 just five days later.
Libya’s AFCON qualifying campaign began with a 1-1 draw against Rwanda on September 4. The Mediterranean Knights seemed poised for success when they took an early lead against Benin a week later but were eventually defeated 2-1 in Abidjan. Currently, Libya sits in fourth place in Group D, just one point behind Rwanda and three points adrift of group leaders Nigeria.
With the group still wide open, both Nigeria and Libya are hungry for a win. The stakes are especially high for Libya, who will be keen to pull off an upset and improve their standing in the group. For the Super Eagles, this fixture presents an opportunity to solidify their position as group leaders and edge closer to securing a spot in Morocco for AFCON 2025.
