La Roja defeated defending champions Argentina 1-0 after extra time on Sunday to lift the 2026 FIFA World Cup, securing only the second World Cup title in the nation’s history after their maiden triumph in 2010.

Luis de la Fuente’s side controlled much of the final, dominating possession and creating the better chances, but were unable to break through during regulation time.

Argentina’s task became even tougher in extra time after Enzo Fernández was sent off for a second yellow card.

With the match heading towards penalties, Ferran Torres delivered the decisive moment, firing home from close range after a knockdown by Nico Williams early in the second half of extra time to seal Spain’s historic victory.

The win crowns an impressive tournament for Spain and marks the return of La Roja to the summit of world football after 16 years.
