Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with both countries pledging closer cooperation in trade, investment, security and regional integration.
The commitment was made during a high level meeting between senior government officials from both countries, where discussions focused on expanding economic ties and enhancing collaboration in areas of mutual interest. The two sides emphasized the importance of stronger partnerships to promote sustainable development and stability in West Africa.
Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, said the longstanding relationship between the two countries provides a solid foundation for increased cooperation. He noted that both nations are working to boost intra-African trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) while encouraging greater private sector investment and economic diversification.
The officials also discussed cooperation in agriculture, energy, infrastructure, education and cultural exchange, identifying these sectors as key drivers of inclusive growth. They reaffirmed their commitment to tackling shared security challenges, including terrorism, transnational crime and maritime insecurity, through stronger intelligence sharing and regional collaboration.
Both countries stressed the need to accelerate the implementation of existing bilateral agreements and explore new opportunities for partnership that will benefit their citizens and strengthen regional economic integration.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to maintaining regular diplomatic engagements and advancing initiatives that promote peace, economic prosperity and stronger relations between Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire.
