The Federal Government has recorded significant progress on its legacy infrastructure projects while approving the construction and rehabilitation of additional roads across the country, Minister of Works David Umahi has said.
Speaking after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja, Umahi said the government remains committed to accelerating the delivery of major road projects to improve connectivity, stimulate economic growth and enhance transportation nationwide. He noted that ongoing legacy projects inherited from previous administrations are receiving priority attention to ensure their timely completion.
According to the minister, FEC approved several new road contracts and reviewed the progress of strategic highway projects aimed at easing traffic congestion, improving interstate travel and supporting trade and agricultural activities. He said the approvals reflect the Tinubu administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s road infrastructure.
Umahi explained that the ministry has intensified monitoring of contractors to ensure projects meet quality standards and are delivered within agreed timelines. He added that the government is also adopting innovative construction technologies and durable materials to improve the lifespan of federal roads while reducing long-term maintenance costs.
The minister said investments in road infrastructure are expected to create jobs, facilitate the movement of goods and services, attract private sector investment and contribute to national economic development. He reaffirmed that the Federal Government will continue to prioritize critical infrastructure projects that improve the lives of Nigerians and support sustainable growth.
Umahi urged contractors handling federal road projects to maintain high standards and adhere strictly to project specifications, assuring Nigerians that the administration remains focused on delivering modern, safe and efficient road networks across the country.
