A magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck Cuba on Tuesday, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre, with no immediate reports of major damage or casualties.

The quake occurred at a depth of about 15 kilometers, a relatively shallow depth that can intensify ground shaking, officials said.

Reports indicate the tremor was felt in parts of eastern Cuba, prompting concern among residents, though authorities have not confirmed any significant structural damage.

Seismological agencies continue to monitor the situation for possible aftershocks. Early assessments suggest the event was strong but not among the most destructive earthquakes recorded in the country.

Cuba lies in a seismically active region of the Caribbean, where tectonic movement along major fault lines frequently generates earthquakes of varying magnitudes. Experts say continued monitoring is essential following events of this scale.

Authorities are expected to release further updates as additional information becomes available.
