The Federal Republic of Nigeria, through its Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Republic of Angola as the nation marks its 50th Independence Anniversary. Nigeria’s message, addressed to Angola’s Minister of External Relations, His Excellency Teté António, highlights the enduring friendship and shared values that have bound the two African nations over decades.

The golden jubilee of Angola’s independence serves as a testament to the resilience, unity, and determination of the Angolan people in their pursuit of freedom, peace, and national development. Nigeria, as a long-standing partner in Angola’s liberation struggle, celebrates this historic milestone with a spirit of African solidarity, reaffirming its commitment to mutual progress and continental unity.

Over the years, Nigeria and Angola have maintained cordial and mutually beneficial relations, with cooperation spanning trade, energy, security, and multilateral engagements. The recent session of the Nigeria–Angola Joint Commission in Luanda underscored the growing partnership, resulting in the signing of multiple agreements aimed at strengthening economic collaboration, enhancing security cooperation, and promoting regional stability. Both countries continue to work closely within the African Union to advance shared continental interests and foster sustainable development.

In a further demonstration of mutual respect, the Angolan government recently honored three distinguished Nigerians — the late Head of State, General Murtala Mohammed; former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo; and renowned diplomat Professor Ibrahim Gambari — for Nigeria’s decisive role in Angola’s independence struggle and its ongoing contributions to Pan-Africanism and African solidarity. The awards, presented by President João Manuel Lourenço in Luanda, symbolically reaffirm the historic bonds between the two nations.

On this landmark occasion, Nigeria has reaffirmed its readiness to deepen bilateral relations with Angola, explore new areas of cooperation, and promote people-to-people exchanges to enhance cultural, economic, and social ties. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that both nations share a vision for peace, prosperity, and sustainable national advancement that benefits all citizens.

Nigeria conveys its warmest felicitations to the Government and people of Angola, wishing continued progress, peace, and prosperity as the nation celebrates half a century of independence and resilience. The message reflects Nigeria’s enduring commitment to Africa’s unity, freedom, and shared growth.
