Egypt has launched the first phase of its parliamentary elections, with nearly 63 million eligible voters heading to the polls to select 568 members of the House of Representatives, local media reports. The state‑run Al‑Qahera News channel announced that phase one will be held over two days in 14 provinces Alexandria, Assiut, Aswan, Beheira, Beni Suef, Fayoum, Giza, Luxor, Matrouh, Minya, New Valley, Qena, the Red Sea and Sohag across 5 606 sub‑committees in 70 electoral districts. A total of 1 287 candidates are running: 1 143 independents under the individual system and 142 via the party‑list system.

Egypt’s 596‑seat House of Representatives includes 568 elected members 284 through the closed‑list system and 284 through the individual system plus 28 direct presidential appointees. The results of phase one are due on November 18. The country’s Interior Ministry has implemented a comprehensive security plan to safeguard polling stations, while Egyptians abroad cast their ballots on November 7‑8 in 117 countries. Phase two of the vote will take place on November 21‑22 for expatriates and November 24‑25 for domestic voters in the remaining 13 provinces, with results expected on December 2.

These elections follow the recent Senate contest and take place just months before the current House, elected in late 2020, completes its five‑year term in January 2026.
