In a significant stride toward deepening African cooperation and promoting South-South collaboration, the Federal Government of Nigeria has officially handed over four highly skilled Technical Aid Corps (TAC) volunteers to the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone. The deployment, which took place in Freetown on Thursday, 16th October 2025, marks another milestone in Nigeria’s longstanding commitment to fostering unity, development, and knowledge exchange across the African continent.

The four volunteers two professors, one PhD holder, and one master’s degree holder, were selected for their expertise in the fields of law, medicine, and science. They are expected to contribute meaningfully to Sierra Leone’s national development agenda through capacity building, institutional support, and the transfer of knowledge in key sectors. Their placement into Sierra Leone’s government institutions is part of a broader mission to advance human capital development and promote socio-economic growth through education, research, and service delivery.

Representing the Nigerian government at the official ceremony, Ambassador Anthony John Ebipador, Nigeria’s Chargé d’Affaires in Sierra Leone, presented the volunteers to the Sierra Leonean authorities, led by the Director of Education, Mr. J. Momoh. Ambassador Ebipador commended both nations for sustaining the spirit of partnership and mutual respect that has defined their relations for decades. He emphasized that Nigeria remains steadfast in supporting Sierra Leone’s institutional and human capacity growth, describing the deployment as a testament to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of Pan-African cooperation and collective advancement.

The Technical Aid Corps Scheme, established in 1987, is one of Nigeria’s most impactful foreign policy initiatives. Designed to share Nigeria’s expertise with other developing nations, the scheme has successfully sent thousands of professionals — including doctors, engineers, teachers, and legal experts — to various countries across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. The program stands as a practical expression of Nigeria’s belief in mutual assistance, African solidarity, and shared prosperity.

The Government of Nigeria extended its gratitude to the people and Government of Sierra Leone for their hospitality and continued partnership. It reiterated that the collaboration symbolizes more than just a diplomatic gesture — it is an investment in Africa’s collective progress. Through initiatives like TAC, Nigeria continues to champion development-driven diplomacy that empowers people, strengthens institutions, and bridges nations through cooperation and goodwill.

Ambassador Ebipador further noted that Nigeria’s partnership with Sierra Leone extends beyond technical support, encompassing education, peacebuilding, trade, and governance. He assured that Nigeria would continue to explore new opportunities for cooperation, reaffirming the nation’s readiness to stand with its African brothers and sisters in the quest for sustainable growth and development.

This latest deployment once again demonstrates Nigeria’s unwavering leadership in promoting regional integration and its commitment to the ideals of Pan-Africanism a future where African nations rise together through knowledge, solidarity, and shared vision.
