Kosovo approves troops to Gaza under U.S.-backed scheme

Kosovo has moved forward with plans to deploy troops to Gaza as part of a United States backed international stabilization initiative, marking a significant step in its growing role in global peacekeeping operations.

The deployment is tied to a broader plan supported by the United States to establish a multinational force aimed at restoring security and supporting reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip following months of conflict. The mission, known as the International Stabilization Force, is expected to include contributions from several countries working to maintain order, train local security forces, and facilitate humanitarian operations.

Kosovo’s government has approved the participation of its security forces, with the decision now advancing through final institutional steps, including parliamentary authorization and presidential approval, as required under national law.

Officials in Pristina say the move reflects Kosovo’s commitment to international security cooperation and its ambition to play a more active role in global peacekeeping missions. Defence authorities have indicated that the Kosovo Security Force is prepared for deployment, with planning already underway regarding the scope and responsibilities of its contingent.

Kosovo is among a group of countries, including Indonesia, Morocco, Kazakhstan, and Albania, that have pledged troops to the mission under the U.S.-led framework. The force is expected to eventually comprise tens of thousands of personnel tasked with stabilizing Gaza and supporting long term governance and reconstruction efforts.

The initiative stems from a wider diplomatic effort to reshape post war Gaza governance through international oversight and security guarantees. While supporters argue the plan could help restore order and accelerate rebuilding, critics have raised concerns about political legitimacy, operational challenges, and the complexity of enforcing stability in the region.

Kosovo’s participation highlights its increasing alignment with Western security initiatives and underscores its efforts to strengthen international partnerships, particularly with the United States, as it expands its presence on the global stage.
