U.S. President Donald Trump is pushing for a deal with Iran to end the ongoing conflict, but Israeli officials say the chances of successful negotiations remain low.

According to senior Israeli officials, Trump is eager to use recent military developments to secure a diplomatic agreement that would curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions and missile program. However, they expressed skepticism that Tehran would accept such terms, especially after previous talks collapsed in late February as hostilities escalated.

Trump has publicly claimed that discussions with Iran have been “productive” and suggested that a deal could be within reach. However, Iranian authorities have repeatedly denied that any direct negotiations are taking place, creating uncertainty around the true state of diplomacy.

Despite behind the scenes mediation efforts involving regional actors, officials and analysts say there has been little tangible progress. Key sticking points include Iran’s nuclear program, regional influence, and control over strategic routes like the Strait of Hormuz, all of which remain highly contentious.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has indicated that military pressure could be used to strengthen the chances of a deal, though Israel continues its operations in the region. Meanwhile, conflicting statements from Washington and Tehran highlight deep mistrust and the absence of direct communication channels.

While Trump maintains optimism, the combination of ongoing conflict, hardline positions, and disputed claims about negotiations suggests that any agreement remains uncertain, with diplomacy struggling to keep pace with escalating tensions on the ground.
