Women as Peace Agents: International Peace Day 2025 to Be Celebrated in Abuja

The Engage Empower Educate Initiative (EEEI) has announced the Commemoration of International Peace Day 2025, scheduled to take place on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Barcelona Hotel, Abuja. This historic event will celebrate peace, unity, and the transformative role of women as catalysts for sustainable development across Africa.

Theme: “Women as Peace Agents”

This year’s theme, “Women as Peace Agents,” underscores the critical role women play in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and inclusive governance. The summit will bring together government officials, security leaders, corporate executives, civil society, and young changemakers to highlight women’s leadership in advancing dialogue, stability, and unity across the continent.

Key Highlights of the Event

The 2025 commemoration will feature:

  • Launch of the Africa Peace Manual – A groundbreaking resource designed to guide and support peacebuilding initiatives across African communities.
  • Inauguration of 30 Peace Ambassadors – A milestone toward EEEI’s bold vision of raising 1,000,000 Peace Ambassadors across Africa within the next decade.
  • Presentation of Peace Awards – Honoring distinguished leaders who have made remarkable contributions to peace and national security, including:
    • The National Security Adviser (NSA)
    • The Chief of Defence Staff
    • The Inspector General of Police (IGP)
    • Prominent corporate leaders and women trailblazers whose work strengthens peace through economic empowerment, industrial growth, and social inclusion.

Celebrating Women in Peace and Leadership

Special recognitions such as the Africa Women Peace Impact Award and the Africa Peace Leadership Impact Award will be presented to outstanding individuals, including Lady (Dr.) Ada Chukwudozie, Chairman of Keystone Bank Ltd, and Amb. (Dr.) Dickson Akoh, National Commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria. These awards affirm their legacies of impact in shaping industries, communities, and lives while championing peace and youth empowerment.
