Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has reaffirmed Cairo’s commitment to bolstering relations with Slovenia, urging deeper cooperation across key sectors such as energy, transport, ports, and labour. Speaking during high-level talks on the sidelines of the 20th Bled Strategic Forum in Slovenia, Abdelatty described Egypt as a vital gateway to Africa and called on Slovenian companies to expand their investments in the country.
The discussions also highlighted Slovenia’s current role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. Both sides agreed on the importance of intensifying consultations, while Abdelatty praised Ljubljana’s constructive engagement within the European Union and its recognition of the State of Palestine in 2024.
Turning to the war in Gaza, Abdelatty briefed Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob on Egypt’s ongoing efforts to secure a ceasefire and facilitate humanitarian aid delivery. While welcoming Slovenia’s “balanced” stance on the conflict, he pressed for stronger European intervention, urging the EU to hold Israel accountable for what he described as “grave violations against civilians” and to push decisively for an immediate halt to the escalation, including the alleged use of starvation as a weapon of war.
Abdelatty’s visit to Slovenia also includes participation in a panel discussion on Reviving Leadership and Multilateralism in an Era of Fragmented Conflicts and a series of meetings with senior Slovenian officials, EU representatives, and foreign ministers.
Now in its 20th year, the Bled Strategic Forum, launched in 2006, has become a major international platform for addressing global challenges and shaping long-term strategies for a more stable and sustainable world. The 2025 edition, held on 1–2 September, is hosting more than 2,000 participants from over 50 countries, including world leaders, policymakers, and leading experts.
