Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mourns the Passing of Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, Consul General in Cameroon

Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed deep sorrow over the sudden passing of Ambassador Taofik Obasanjo Coker, the Consul General of Nigeria in Buea, Republic of Cameroon. Ambassador Coker reportedly passed away on Saturday, 16th August 2025, after a brief illness, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated service to his country.

Ambassador Coker was widely respected as a hardworking and committed career diplomat who represented Nigeria with professionalism and integrity throughout his years of service. His death marks not only a painful loss to the diplomatic community but also a significant blow to Nigeria’s foreign service and international representation.

Before his posting as Consul General in Buea, Ambassador Coker had served Nigeria with distinction in various missions abroad, including in Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China. His long-standing career highlighted his deep commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic ties, fostering bilateral cooperation, and upholding the values of service and patriotism.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended its condolences to Ambassador Coker’s immediate family, colleagues, and friends during this period of mourning. The Ministry also emphasized that his passing leaves a void that will be deeply felt by those who worked closely with him, both at home and abroad.

The Ministry prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul while recognizing his invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s diplomacy and international relations.
