Premier League 2025/26 Season Kicks Off with African Stars in Spotlight as Salah, Mbeumo, Kudus, and Ait-Nouri Target Glory

The 2025/26 Premier League season begins this Friday with defending champions Liverpool hosting Bournemouth at Anfield, marking the start of an exciting new campaign packed with fresh signings, high-profile transfers, and a wave of African football talent set to make an impact. Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah, the reigning Player of the Season, is aiming for his fifth Golden Boot while leading a revamped Liverpool attack alongside big-money signings Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz.

This season sees a significant influx of African players making notable moves, with new arrivals from Cameroon, Ghana, Algeria, DR Congo, Morocco, Mozambique, and Senegal. However, up to 50 African players could face a mid-season interruption as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) takes place between 21 December and 18 January.

Among the most eye-catching transfers is Cameroon forward Bryan Mbeumo’s £65 million move to Manchester United from Brentford. The 25-year-old, who scored 20 goals and provided seven assists last season, joins United at a time of major rebuilding under manager Ruben Amorim after their worst-ever Premier League finish in 15th place. Mbeumo will shoulder heavy expectations alongside fellow expensive signings Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko, as United bid to restore their former glory despite the absence of European football.

Ghana international Mohammed Kudus has also made a headline move, leaving West Ham for Tottenham Hotspur in a £55 million deal. The midfielder’s first season in East London was impressive, but his second year saw him struggle under a wing-back system. Now reunited with Champions League football and working under new Spurs coach Thomas Frank, Kudus has a golden opportunity to rediscover his Ajax-era brilliance. With Son Heung-min departing and James Maddison sidelined for much of the season, Kudus is expected to be a pivotal figure in Tottenham’s attack.

Manchester City, determined to bounce back after finishing third and enduring a trophyless season, have bolstered their ranks with the signing of Algerian left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £31 million. Known for his attacking prowess, having registered four goals and seven assists last season, Ait-Nouri has already tasted action with City at the FIFA Club World Cup. Manager Pep Guardiola is eager for the 24-year-old to thrive in City’s possession-dominated style and provide an extra attacking edge from the flanks.

With Salah chasing history, Mbeumo aiming to revive United’s fortunes, Kudus stepping into a starring role at Spurs, and Ait-Nouri strengthening City’s title ambitions, African stars are set to take center stage in the 2025/26 Premier League campaign. Fans can expect a thrilling season of football drama, big performances, and possibly a reshaping of the league’s power dynamics as these talents battle for domestic and continental glory.
