Stray Dog Spotted on Top of Egypt’s Great Pyramid

a stray dog was spotted roaming the top of one of Egypt’s most iconic landmarks — the Pyramid of Khafre. The unusual sighting occurred during a sunrise paragliding session over the Great Pyramids of Giza, where a group of adventurers, including US paraglider Marshall Mosher, captured the unexpected moment on video.

Mosher, an experienced paraglider, was flying with his companions over the pyramids, taking in the stunning aerial views of the ancient structures. But the thrill of the scenery quickly turned to curiosity when they noticed what appeared to be an animal running along the summit of the 448-foot-tall Khafre Pyramid, which is off-limits to both humans and animals.

“At first, someone thought it might be a mountain lion,” Mosher told CNN Travel, describing the bizarre sight. Upon zooming in with their phones, the group was stunned to discover that the figure was actually a stray dog. The dog appeared to be happily chasing birds at the top of the pyramid, enjoying an exclusive vantage point typically reserved for no one.

Concerned that the animal might be stuck at such a dangerous height, Mosher admitted he initially felt worried for the dog’s safety. However, he quickly reassured himself, joking, “If he got himself up there, he can get himself down, unless he found some secret portal that helped him teleport to the top of the pyramids.”

The following day, Mosher and his group returned to see if the dog was still at the pyramid’s summit, but they couldn’t spot him. Fortunately, a fellow adventurer captured footage of what appeared to be the same dog making its way down safely. The identity of the dog remains uncertain as hundreds of stray dogs are known to roam around the Pyramids complex, often congregating near the base of the structures.

While it’s not uncommon to see stray dogs in the area, spotting one on top of an ancient pyramid is a different story. The videos of the incident quickly went viral, with Mosher’s initial post gaining millions of views on Instagram overnight. The unexpected canine adventure fascinated social media users, who were amazed by the dog’s feat.

The incident also sparked conversations online, with some viewers humorously connecting the dog’s appearance to Anubis, the ancient Egyptian god of the dead, often depicted as a man with a jackal head. Whether there was any divine symbolism at play, the sight of a stray dog at the top of one of Egypt’s ancient wonders captured the imagination of many.

Mosher, who frequently paraglides over the pyramids as part of an annual event organized by SkyOne Egypt, expressed his surprise at the overwhelming interest in the dog’s adventure. “I thought flying over the pyramids was the highlight,” he said, “but no one seemed to care about that. Everyone was more interested in the dog’s journey.”
