Nana Musa, a business correspondent with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), has won the Best Reporter of the Year award presented by the National Pension Commission (PENCom) in recognition of her journalism on pension industry developments.
The award was presented at the 2026 PENCom Conference for Journalists held in Abuja on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Ese Williams, NAN’s Business Editor, received the award on Musa’s behalf.
Musa, who also serves as president of the Pension Correspondents Association of Nigeria (PenCAN), commended PENCom Director General Omolola Oloworaran for the recognition and the commission’s ongoing reforms in pension administration.
She said the innovations introduced under Oloworaran’s leadership had contributed to improvements in pension administration and service delivery.
The conference provided a platform for journalists and pension industry stakeholders to discuss reforms, innovations and developments in Nigeria’s pension sector.
Musa urged participants to apply the knowledge gained at the event to their daily reporting and improve the quality of information available to the public.
She also emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration, transparency and access to credible information in building public confidence in the pension system.
Accurate and accessible pension reporting is important in helping workers, retirees and other contributors understand their entitlements, the management of retirement savings and changes to pension policies.
Journalists also play a role in examining how reforms affect contributors and retirees, explaining regulatory decisions and holding institutions accountable for service delivery.
The recognition of Musa highlights the contribution of specialised financial reporting to public understanding of pension administration, an area with direct implications for retirement security and confidence in Nigeria’s financial institutions.
PENCom’s engagement with journalists through the annual conference provides an avenue for strengthening communication between pension regulators and the media, while encouraging more informed coverage of developments in the sector.
