Vice President Kashim Shettima has condoled with businessman Tony Elumelu over the death of his father in law, describing the late patriarch as a man whose legacy would endure across generations.

Shettima conveyed the condolences of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu while leading a federal government delegation to the funeral of Sir Israel Chinwuba Ogbue in Delta State. He said the deceased lived a life of meaning, service and integrity, adding that his values remain evident in the lives of his children and family.

The Vice President noted that although the family is grieving, the occasion should also be seen as a celebration of a life well spent. He emphasised that the late Ogbue’s influence extended beyond his immediate family, highlighting his guidance, wisdom and contributions to society over many decades.

Shettima also acknowledged the role the deceased played in shaping key moments in Elumelu’s journey, particularly in business, where his counsel was said to have provided stability and moral direction.

Sir Ogbue, who passed away on February 18, 2026 at the age of 99, was laid to rest in his hometown of Onicha Olona in Delta State, with dignitaries from across Nigeria attending the ceremony to pay their respects.

The condolence message underscores the close ties between government officials and prominent figures in Nigeria’s business community, while also reflecting a broader tradition of honouring legacy and community impact during national moments of mourning.
