Heavy snowfall has forced authorities to extend the suspension of flight operations at Vienna International Airport until 1100 GMT (midday local time) on Friday, 20 February 2026, as crews work to clear runways and ensure airfield safety.

Originally expected to resume earlier in the morning, take‑offs are now projected to begin only around midday, with landings not likely to restart until about 1300 local time (12 00 GMT). Weather conditions have led to widespread cancellations and delays, with around 150 of approximately 232 scheduled flights being called off so far on Friday morning.

Passengers are being urged to check flight statuses with their airlines before travelling to the airport, as snow‑clearing operations continue and disruptions may persist well into the day. Some flights have been diverted to other airports, and travellers should expect ongoing delays even after operations resume.

The extended halt comes amid a heavy snowstorm that has affected not just air traffic but also road conditions in and around Vienna, highlighting the broader impact of severe winter weather on travel and infrastructure.
