A young Nigerian soldier, Lt AM Yerima, has captured widespread admiration on social media after footage of him standing his ground against Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike went viral.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when Lt Yerima, acting on orders from his superiors, refused the minister access to a disputed plot of land in Abuja. In the video, Wike appears increasingly agitated as the officer calmly enforces his duty, demonstrating remarkable composure and discipline.

Social media users have hailed Lt Yerima’s actions as courageous, professional, and fearless, with many sharing his photo on WhatsApp and other platforms to celebrate his bravery. His calm demeanor has been widely contrasted with Wike’s aggressive remarks, including the minister telling the officer, “You are a very big fool. At the time I graduated, you were still in primary school.”

The confrontation struck a chord because Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, is considered one of the most influential figures in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, often commanding respect and compliance from lower-ranking officials.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, “I commend the gallantry of this military officer, Lieutenant A.M. Yerima, for his unshakable boldness and composure despite the offensive utterances from FCT minister Wike. He’s well trained and fearless.”

Another added, “Discipline, courage, and integrity. The true spirit of the Nigerian military. The young officer A.M Yerima stood his ground with professionalism and honor.”

The viral clip has sparked nationwide discussion about accountability, professionalism in the Nigerian military, and the importance of standing firm in the face of intimidation, earning Lt Yerima recognition as a symbol of integrity and courage.
