This honour represents the highest level of professional recognition within ANAN, reserved for individuals who have demonstrated excellence, integrity, and leadership in advancing the accounting sector in Nigeria.

Administering the oath of allegiance, ANAN’s President and Chairman of Council, Chief (Hajia) Zuwairat Talatu Kishimi, FCNA, described Senator Barau as a true ambassador of the profession, stating: “By the powers conferred on me as President and Chairman of Council of this great association, I hereby admit you into the fellowship of the Association. With this, you can proudly add FCNA to your name. We are proud of you and we celebrate you.” Her declaration was met with thunderous applause from the large gathering of professionals and dignitaries.

As part of the recognition, Senator Barau was also presented with an award for chairing the 30th Annual National Conference, which brought together leading figures in Nigeria’s finance and governance space. The Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ojunjimi, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, joined other dignitaries in praising Senator Barau’s reform-driven leadership. Mal Adamu Abubakar, Chairman of ANAN’s Conferences, Seminars, and Workshops Committee, commended the Deputy Senate President as a reform-minded statesman whose legislative work in the Appropriation Committees of both chambers of the National Assembly has helped shape Nigeria’s fiscal policy and financial accountability.

In his acceptance remarks, Senator Barau I. Jibrin expressed appreciation to ANAN for the honour and applauded the Association’s strategic role in promoting ethics, transparency, and governance in Nigeria’s financial system. He highlighted ANAN’s impact in reinforcing public sector financial management, stressing that accountants remain central in ensuring accountability and optimizing the use of public funds to drive national development. He further noted that ANAN’s efforts align with the Federal Government’s fiscal responsibility agenda as provided under the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which strengthens Nigeria’s financial integrity and governance framework.

With this Fellowship conferment, Senator Barau joins the distinguished rank of ANAN Fellows, further cementing his legacy as not only a political leader but also a respected professional whose influence extends across governance, finance, and national development.
