The Federal Government of Nigeria has extended critical financial assistance to 25,204 vulnerable households in Plateau State under its Renewed Hope Cash Transfer Programme, a flagship initiative aimed at reducing poverty and providing economic relief to struggling families. The programme, coordinated by the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP), represents a key component of President Bola Tinubu’s broader strategy to address economic hardship and uplift disadvantaged communities across the country.
Mrs. Mary Fom, Plateau State Coordinator of NSIP, revealed the development during a one-day stakeholders’ meeting held on Friday in Jos. She explained that the Renewed Hope Cash Transfer is a bold and deliberate commitment by the federal government to reduce poverty and improve the quality of life for the most vulnerable Nigerians.
According to Fom, debit cards have already been produced for all 25,204 beneficiaries in Plateau State. Out of these, 23,797 households have successfully collected their cards and accessed the funds, while 1,371 cards remain unclaimed. She noted that many of the unclaimed cards likely belong to residents who may have relocated due to security challenges affecting certain communities. Efforts are currently underway to contact these beneficiaries so that payment service providers can complete the disbursement process.
Beyond the cash transfer initiative, Fom highlighted that other social investment programmes under NSIP including N-Power, the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme, and the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme are actively operating in the state to address unemployment, food insecurity, and financial exclusion.
She stressed that the stakeholder engagement was designed to gather input and suggestions that will help improve the operational efficiency of the programme and ensure it reaches its intended targets.
Fom expressed her gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering dedication to poverty eradication, as well as to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang for providing a supportive environment that has allowed the programme to thrive. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to sustaining and expanding the initiative to reach more households, especially those in conflict-prone and underserved areas.
With thousands of families already benefiting from the Renewed Hope Cash Transfer Programme in Plateau, the federal government aims to strengthen social safety nets and create lasting economic empowerment for vulnerable citizens across Nigeria.
