Irish Minister of State for International Development and Diaspora, Neale Richmond, arrived in Zimbabwe as part of a broader diplomatic tour aimed at deepening Ireland’s trade, development, and political relationships across Africa. His visit follows a stop in Zambia and comes ahead of his participation in the G20 Development Working Group Ministerial Meeting in South Africa later this week.
During his time in Zimbabwe, Minister Richmond is expected to engage with political leaders, members of the Irish community, and key development partners. His agenda includes site visits to impactful health and education programs, such as an HIV treatment clinic and the maternal and neonatal ward at Chegutu District Hospital.
Highlighting Ireland’s ongoing commitment to Africa, Richmond stated, “Ireland is committed to building and strengthening our trade and development relations throughout Africa. Our continued support for development cooperation, especially in times of global crisis, is making a real difference on the ground.”
He will also meet with organisations like SERVE, Build it International, and the Global Fund, which are supported by Irish Aid and continue to implement life-changing programs focused on health, education, and sustainable development.
Richmond’s visit underscores Ireland’s broader strategy of supporting the most vulnerable populations through strong partnerships and inclusive, locally driven initiatives, reinforcing its longstanding ties with nations like Zimbabwe and Zambia.
