Former Super Falcons team manager Mansur Abdullahi has voiced strong confidence in Nigeria’s chances of claiming their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title as the tournament heats up in Morocco. The nine-time African champions are set to face Botswana in their second group-stage match after a dominant display in their 4-0 win over Tunisia.

The Super Falcons, led by coach Randy Waldrum and featuring top talents like Asisat Oshoala and Rasheedat Ajibade, are among the tournament favorites. Nigeria’s squad depth and experience give them a competitive edge as they pursue another historic triumph.

Elsewhere in the tournament, host nation Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses are under pressure ahead of their Wednesday night clash against DR Congo at Stade Olympique in Rabat. The Congolese team is looking to bounce back after a heavy 4-0 loss to a high-flying Senegal side.

In Group C action, South African defender Bambanani Mbane shone brightly as Banyana Banyana secured a confident 2-0 victory over Ghana’s Black Queens, earning her the Woman of the Match title. Meanwhile, Mali’s Saratou Traore was the standout player in her nation’s narrow 1-0 win over Tanzania, further tightening competition in the group.

As teams like Zambia continue their search for a first-ever WAFCON victory, the 2025 edition of the tournament promises fierce matchups and rising African stars, showcasing the growing depth and talent in women’s football across the continent.

With stakes high and rivalries intensifying, Nigeria’s Super Falcons are setting their sights firmly on championship glory while other nations battle to keep their tournament dreams alive.
