Temilade Openiyi, known professionally as Tems, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer renowned for her soulful voice and emotive songwriting. Born on June 11, 1995, in Lagos, Nigeria, Tems pursued a degree in Economics from Monash South Africa before embarking on a transformative journey into the world of music.

In 2018, Tems made a bold decision to leave her digital marketing job and focus entirely on her music career. She taught herself music production through YouTube tutorials, showcasing her determination and innate talent. Her debut single, “Mr. Rebel,” released on July 18, 2018, quickly captured attention, followed by the hit “Try Me” on August 7, 2019, which solidified her as a rising star in the Nigerian music scene.

Tems gained international recognition in 2020 with her critically acclaimed debut EP, For Broken Ears, and her standout feature on Wizkid’s global hit “Essence.” The success of “Essence” not only topped charts but also earned Tems a Grammy nomination, expanding her influence to a global audience. She continued to build her legacy with tracks like “Damages” (2020), “Me and U” (2024), and “Love Me Jeje” (2024). The latter earned her the 67th Annual Grammy Award for Best African Performance, making her only the second Nigerian artist to win a Grammy, following Burna Boy.

Tems’ artistry and versatility have led to collaborations with international icons such as Drake, Rihanna, Future, Wizkid, and Davido. Her feature on Future’s “Wait For U” earned her the Best Melodic Rap Performance award at the 2023 Grammy Awards, further cementing her status as a formidable talent in the global music industry.

Her accolades include winning the Female MVP Award at the Soundcity MVP Awards (2023) and a Grammy nomination for her feature on Wizkid’s “Essence” (2020). Tems is celebrated for her powerful and soulful voice, melodic prowess, and her ability to craft deeply emotive songs that resonate with audiences worldwide.

Tems continues to break barriers, elevate Afrobeats on the global stage, and inspire a new generation of artists.
