The Independent National Electoral Commission will on Tuesday hold a national stakeholders’ meeting and World Press Conference in Abuja as the countdown to Nigeria’s 2027 general elections reaches 100 days.

The meeting, scheduled for Oct. 6 at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, will provide an opportunity for INEC to brief Nigerians and key actors on its preparations for the elections.

INEC said the briefing will cover the voters’ register, candidate nominations, election logistics and measures being implemented to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

The commission’s Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, is expected to address the gathering alongside other stakeholders involved in the conduct and security of the elections.

According to INEC, the national stakeholders’ meeting is intended to strengthen engagement with institutions and groups whose activities are central to the electoral process and demonstrate its commitment to transparency, public communication and collaboration.

Political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners and civil society organisations are expected to attend.

Observer groups, disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives are also expected to participate in the engagement.

The meeting comes as INEC enters the final 100 day stretch before the 2027 polls, with the commission facing the task of completing administrative, logistical and operational preparations for the elections.

INEC has scheduled the presidential and National Assembly elections for Jan. 16, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for Feb. 6, 2027.

The commission said the Oct. 6 event will begin at 10 a.m. and will be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed through its official social media platforms.

Attendance at the venue is by invitation, while accredited journalists and invited guests are required to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.

The engagement provides a platform for INEC and electoral stakeholders to address preparations and expectations ahead of the polls, while keeping the public informed about the commission’s readiness as Nigeria approaches another nationwide electoral cycle.
