The National Movement for Tinubu Shettima 2027, Forward Nigeria, says the 2027 general elections will be critical to Nigeria’s efforts to sustain economic transformation, strengthen national security and promote political stability.

The political support group, which is campaigning for the reelection of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, made the position known in a statement issued in Abuja by its Interim National Coordinating Committee.

The statement was signed by the group’s National Coordinator, Prof. Rufa’i Alkali, National Coordinating Secretary, Dr. Bassey Rekpene, and National Media Coordinator, Ardo Zubairu.

The movement said its support for Tinubu and Shettima was based on its belief that continuity in government was necessary to sustain reforms in the economy, national security and other areas of governance.

It said the 2027 election should, however, go beyond personalities and political propaganda, arguing that voters should have the opportunity to compare competing policy positions and assess the progress of the country.

The group said it had developed a “National Covenant” outlining its position on the 2027 elections and the reasons for supporting the Tinubu Shettima ticket. It also identified a mandate document as the foundation for its philosophy, objectives, organisational structure and strategic direction.

According to the movement, preparations are underway for nationwide consultations, stakeholder engagement and grassroots mobilisation. It said consultations with members and stakeholders across Nigeria and the diaspora had already begun.

The group said it would establish structures across states, local governments and communities as part of its mobilisation programme. It added that a formal public unveiling initially planned for Sept. 1 had been adjusted following further consultations, with a new date expected to be announced.

The movement also said it was strengthening its communication and administrative infrastructure, including digital platforms and channels for engaging supporters and members.

While outlining its approach to the election, the group said political mobilisation required organisation, communication, commitment and responsible civic participation rather than enthusiasm alone.

The movement’s position comes as political activities intensify ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, with various political groups and support organisations beginning to organise around prospective presidential and other electoral contests.

The group said its broader objective was to build a nationally representative platform for supporters who believe the current administration’s policies should continue beyond the 2027 elections.

For Nigeria, the approaching election is likely to place increased attention on the government’s economic reforms, security record, cost of living pressures, employment, public finances and delivery of essential services. Voters will ultimately assess competing political programmes and candidates at the polls.

The support movement’s campaign therefore forms part of the wider political debate over whether the Tinubu administration’s reform agenda should be maintained beyond its current term and how its policies should be evaluated by Nigerian voters.
