Sudan is facing a worsening humanitarian crisis as malnutrition has reportedly reached famine levels in two more localities of North Darfur, according to a monitoring agency. The report underscores the severe food insecurity that continues to grip the region, driven by a combination of ongoing conflict, widespread displacement, economic hardship, and limited access to humanitarian aid.
Humanitarian monitors warn that tens of thousands of people are now at extreme risk of starvation, with children, pregnant women, the elderly, and other vulnerable populations being the most affected. The agency highlighted that the situation is particularly dire due to the prolonged disruption of farming and livestock activities, which traditionally form the backbone of livelihoods in Darfur.
