A 68‑year‑old British man, Ashraf Qarmar Parvez, tragically lost his life after being shot during an armed robbery at a drinking spot in Tema, east of the Ghanaian capital, Accra.

The incident occurred on Friday when a group of six young men on two motorbikes approached the victim and his friends. Two assailants walked up to their table, and one forcibly grabbed his mobile phone. When the victim attempted to retrieve it, one of the attackers pulled a gun and shot him. The group then fled on the motorbikes, leaving behind a 9 mm spent shell at the scene.

The victim was rushed to the Tema General Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Ghana’s police, led by the Tema Regional Police Command, have launched a full-scale manhunt for the suspects, interviewing witnesses, reviewing forensic evidence, and coordinating with the British Embassy in Accra to support the family.

The shooting has raised concerns about security in the industrial port city of Tema, though local authorities describe such incidents as rare.

This shocking event highlights the dangers of evening outings in public spaces and underscores the urgency for heightened vigilance. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in bringing those responsible to justice.
