The Federal Republic of Nigeria has joined the global community in celebrating the Independence Anniversary of the State of Qatar. In a message of goodwill, the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, conveyed warm congratulations to His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, and to the Qatari people as they commemorate this historic milestone.

Ambassador Tuggar emphasized that the occasion is not only a celebration of Qatar’s sovereignty but also a testament to the remarkable resilience, determination, and unity of its people in building a nation anchored on progress, innovation, and prosperity. He noted that Nigeria identifies deeply with these values and proudly stands with Qatar as it continues to chart new paths of growth, development, and influence on the global stage.

Over the decades, relations between Nigeria and Qatar have blossomed into a strong and mutually beneficial partnership. This enduring bond has been reflected in shared commitments to trade, energy, transportation, education, and security. The two nations have actively collaborated in strengthening economic ties, fostering people-to-people exchanges, and creating opportunities for sustainable development.

At the multilateral level, Nigeria and Qatar have consistently supported each other within international platforms such as the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Through these channels, both countries have promoted the values of peace, global security, and inclusive development, further strengthening their role as responsible actors in the international system.

The Federal Republic of Nigeria also reaffirmed its readiness to explore new areas of collaboration that would deepen bilateral relations. Opportunities in renewable energy, infrastructure development, digital technology, cultural exchange, and tourism were highlighted as promising fields for future cooperation. According to the Ministry, such expanded collaboration would not only yield tangible benefits for both nations but also contribute significantly to regional and global stability.

Beyond politics and economics, the message also underscored the importance of people-to-people connections. Nigeria noted that both countries share cultural richness, religious affinity, and a commitment to values such as mutual respect, hospitality, and community spirit. These commonalities, the Minister stressed, provide fertile ground for greater collaboration in education, cultural diplomacy, and youth empowerment initiatives.

In reaffirming Nigeria’s friendship with Qatar, Ambassador Tuggar expressed optimism that the next chapter of relations will be marked by stronger ties, deeper cooperation, and shared progress. He concluded by extending Nigeria’s warmest felicitations to the Government and people of Qatar, wishing them continued peace, prosperity, and national advancement as they look to the future with hope and determination.
