The Federal Government has refuted claims that patients in the Northwest were excluded from its newly launched dialysis subsidy programme, stressing that the initiative covers Federal Tertiary Health Institutions across all geo-political zones.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare described the reports as “incorrect” and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring equal access to life-saving kidney care services.

The subsidy scheme, approved under the Renewed Hope Agenda, is a landmark initiative aimed at reducing the financial and physical burden of kidney-related diseases among vulnerable Nigerians. Through the programme, the cost of a dialysis session in Federal hospitals has been drastically reduced from N50,000 to N12,000.

Currently, the pilot phase of the scheme is being implemented in eleven Federal Tertiary Health Institutions nationwide, including Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, University of Jos Teaching Hospital, National Hospital Abuja, Federal Medical Centre Ebute Metta, University College Hospital Ibadan, University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Federal Medical Centre Yenagoa, Federal Teaching Hospital Owerri, and Federal Medical Centre Abakaliki.

The Ministry emphasized that the Northwest is part of this rollout and that the programme will soon be expanded to cover more Federal hospitals across the country, ensuring no Nigerian is left behind.

The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to tackling non-communicable diseases and strengthening universal health coverage to safeguard the well-being of all citizens.
