Three armed robbers launched a daring nighttime heist at Ligi Sports Bar, located in the heart of Harare’s Central Business District, escaping with a cash safe containing an undisclosed amount of money. The incident has sparked a manhunt by Zimbabwean authorities, who are urging the public to assist with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

According to Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, the gang arrived at the bar in an unregistered white AD Van. Armed with a pistol, one suspect threatened the security guard and demanded the keys to the main gate. Another robber then reversed the getaway vehicle into the premises as the group forced entry.

The assailants not only stole the cash safe but also seized the guard’s cellphone and took an additional US$30 in cash before speeding off. The victim was reportedly immobilized during the robbery, his face covered with a cloth to prevent identification.

Inspector Chakanza confirmed the ongoing investigation into the armed robbery and emphasized the police’s commitment to apprehending the culprits. The total value of the stolen money and property is yet to be determined.

As Harare continues to grapple with rising incidents of commercial armed robberies, authorities are appealing to members of the public who may have witnessed suspicious activity or have relevant information to urgently report to the nearest police station. Enhanced vigilance and community-police cooperation remain crucial in addressing the wave of urban crime affecting local businesses.
