President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a secure, stable and economically prosperous Nigeria, while urging citizens to maintain hope and national cohesion as the country addresses its security and economic challenges.
Tinubu gave the assurance on Sunday at an interdenominational church service marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary at the National Ecumenical Centre in Abuja. He was represented at the event by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The service was held under the theme, “Anchored in Hope: The Path to Divine Stability and Shared Prosperity.” In his message, Tinubu said the anniversary provided an opportunity to recognise the resilience of Nigerians and reflect on the country’s progress since independence.
The president said reforms undertaken by his administration were intended to create greater economic stability and provide a foundation for broader growth and opportunity. He said the next phase would focus on translating stability and economic growth into shared prosperity.
“From reforms, we have built stability. From stability, let us deepen growth and opportunity, and from growth, let us extend shared prosperity to every corner of our dear nation,” Tinubu said.
Security also featured prominently in the president’s message. He paid tribute to members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies for their sacrifices in protecting the country and its territorial integrity.
Tinubu has previously said his administration is combining military operations with non kinetic measures, including job creation, macroeconomic stability, human capital development and social protection, as part of its response to insecurity.
The president also urged Nigerians to protect the country’s democratic gains as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections. He called for peace, dialogue and national cohesion, saying the electoral process should reflect the will of Nigerians without deepening divisions.
The call comes as political activity increases ahead of the next general elections, with parties and political groups beginning to organise campaigns and mobilise supporters across the country.
On the economy, the Federal Government has maintained that reforms introduced since 2023 have helped improve fiscal conditions and strengthen macroeconomic stability, although many households continue to face pressure from living costs and other economic challenges.
Tinubu has previously identified reducing inflation, expanding food production, creating jobs and improving living standards as key priorities for the next phase of his administration. He has also highlighted investments in agriculture, energy, manufacturing, technology, mining and infrastructure as areas expected to support economic expansion.
The president’s latest message places security and economic development within a broader call for national unity. He urged Nigerians to remain committed to building a country in which citizens can enjoy greater security, economic opportunity and social stability.
For Nigeria, translating these commitments into measurable improvements will depend on the implementation of economic reforms, progress in reducing insecurity and the ability of government institutions to deliver essential services and opportunities across the country.
As Nigeria marks 66 years of independence, the administration is therefore seeking to consolidate its reform programme while addressing the security and economic pressures that continue to affect households, businesses and communities.
