France has expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in Cameroon following the recent presidential election, urging authorities and all stakeholders to prioritize peace, restraint, and respect for democratic principles.

The French government said it is closely monitoring developments after the Constitutional Council officially proclaimed the election results on 27 October 2025. Tensions have flared across several cities, with reports of violent crackdowns on demonstrations leaving several civilians dead and hundreds injured.

In a statement issued by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, France called on Cameroonian authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens, while emphasizing the importance of protecting fundamental freedoms and upholding the rule of law.

Paris also appealed for the release of individuals arbitrarily detained since the start of the electoral process, warning that prolonged repression could undermine national unity and social cohesion.

France reiterated its support for a peaceful, democratic resolution to the crisis, urging all political actors to engage in constructive dialogue that restores calm and stability.

The statement added that the safety of French nationals in Cameroon remains a top priority, with the French Embassy in Yaoundé and the Consulate General in Douala fully mobilized to monitor the situation and assist citizens where necessary.

As post-election unrest continues, international attention remains fixed on Cameroon’s next steps with calls growing louder for reconciliation, accountability, and a return to democratic order.
