Nigeria and Denmark have taken a bold step toward deepening their bilateral relationship through a new Memorandum of Understanding focused on digitalisation, innovation, and technology development. The agreement, signed at the Nordic Nigeria Connect Forum, marks a major milestone in strengthening cooperation between the two nations in the fast-growing global digital economy.

The deal was officially signed by Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, and Denmark’s State Secretary for Trade and Investment, Lina Gandlose Hansen. Both representatives emphasized that the partnership reflects a shared vision to harness technology as a catalyst for economic growth, innovation, and human capital development.

Speaking at the event, Dr Tijani said the collaboration underscores Nigeria’s determination to build a resilient digital ecosystem driven by connectivity, data, and creativity. He explained that the partnership will help expand access to digital public infrastructure and promote initiatives that empower Nigerian startups, developers, and innovators to compete on the global stage.

Denmark’s State Secretary, Lina Gandlose Hansen, described the agreement as a reflection of Denmark’s long-standing commitment to supporting sustainable development and digital transformation across Africa. She noted that the partnership will enhance mutual learning, foster investment in green technology, and create opportunities for digital skills training and knowledge exchange.

The Memorandum of Understanding also focuses on improving digital governance, advancing cybersecurity cooperation, and supporting innovation in critical sectors such as agriculture, education, and healthcare. Both countries agreed to explore joint ventures and pilot projects that leverage data-driven solutions to address social and economic challenges.

Industry experts have hailed the agreement as a forward-thinking move that aligns with Nigeria’s Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, which aims to position the country as a leading hub for technology and innovation in Africa. They also noted that Denmark’s expertise in digital infrastructure, clean energy, and smart governance could provide valuable insights for Nigeria’s ongoing digital transformation journey.

The partnership comes at a time when Nigeria is expanding its engagement with global technology leaders to attract investment, strengthen its innovation ecosystem, and accelerate inclusive digital growth. For both nations, the collaboration represents more than just a policy framework. It is a strategic alliance designed to shape the future of digital cooperation and create long-term economic value.

As implementation begins, stakeholders on both sides are optimistic that the Nigeria-Denmark digital partnership will drive innovation, strengthen connectivity, and open new doors for businesses, entrepreneurs, and young talent across both countries.
