The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Technical Aid Corps, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, has urged staff members of the agency to uphold professionalism, integrity and excellence in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Yakub gave the charge during a management and staff engagement organised to mark the 40th anniversary of the Nigeria Technical Aid Corps, an initiative established to strengthen Nigeria’s technical cooperation and development assistance across Africa and other partner countries.
The NTAC boss said the agency’s reputation depends significantly on the conduct, competence and professionalism of its personnel, particularly officers who represent Nigeria in international assignments.
He urged staff to demonstrate discipline, respect for institutional procedures and commitment to public service while carrying out their duties.
According to him, Nigeria’s technical assistance programme is not only about deploying professionals abroad but also about projecting the country’s expertise, values and commitment to development cooperation.
Yakub said NTAC personnel should therefore ensure that their actions reflect the standards expected of representatives of Nigeria, especially in countries where Nigerian experts are deployed to provide technical support.
The Executive Secretary also encouraged staff to embrace teamwork and continuous learning as the agency expands its contribution to international development cooperation.
He said strengthening internal capacity would enable NTAC to respond more effectively to the changing needs of partner countries and improve the quality of technical assistance provided by Nigerian professionals.
The Nigeria Technical Aid Corps was established in 1987 as part of Nigeria’s foreign policy and development cooperation strategy. Through the programme, Nigerian professionals have been deployed to African, Caribbean and Pacific countries in areas including education, health, agriculture, engineering and other technical fields.
The programme has provided opportunities for Nigeria to share its human resources and professional expertise with developing countries while strengthening diplomatic and people to people relations.
Yakub said the achievements recorded by the agency over the past four decades should encourage staff to maintain the values of excellence, service and professionalism that underpin Nigeria’s technical assistance programme.
He called on personnel to protect the credibility of the institution and contribute to building an agency capable of meeting emerging demands in international technical cooperation.
The engagement also provided an opportunity for management and staff to reflect on NTAC’s achievements, challenges and future priorities as the agency marks four decades of operation.
Yakub said the next phase of NTAC’s development would require stronger institutional coordination, professionalism and a renewed commitment to delivering measurable results for Nigeria and its international partners.
